Trump Claims India and Russia Have Been "Lost to China's Darkness

On Friday, September 5, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media, stating that India and Russia have drifted toward "deep, dark China" following a meeting of leaders with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump’s remarks express clear frustration with New Delhi and Moscow, suggesting that Beijing is advancing toward a new world order.

In his post, Trump wrote, “It looks like we have lost India and Russia to deep, dark China. May they live long and prosper together!” The post included a photo of Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Narendra Modi together.

When asked for comments on Trump’s post, India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi declined to respond to journalists. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has also not issued a statement, and Kremlin representatives could not be reached immediately for comment. Xi Jinping hosted a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin, China, attended by leaders from over 20 non-Western countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the summit, Putin and Modi were seen holding hands as they approached the Chinese leader, and later, the three were spotted standing together. Trump has repeatedly claimed that India benefits disproportionately from trade with the United States, leading to disputes over trade and other issues. Earlier this week, Trump expressed disappointment with Putin but stated he is not concerned about the growing Russia-China relationship. Trump also mentioned that he plans to speak with Putin soon.
